About David O.G. Photography

Who is David O.G.?

To get a sense of who I am and the meaning behind my photography, you first must know a little about my parents. My parents immigrated to this country from Mexico with three kids and very little else. They worked hard, faced struggles, and raised those kids into their teens before I came along. I must’ve been a surprise!

I was the first U.S.- born child of four, born and raised in sunny southern California. Like my siblings, my parents gave me everything they could and instilled their strong work ethic, respect for people and the natural world, and above all – GRATITUDE. Not for anything specific, but for everything! Gratitude for the good, the bad, and the unexpected. For life, for death, for beauty, and imperfection.

It's that gratitude and appreciation for life that drives my photography! I’m not simply capturing a moment in time – I am acknowledging it. I am saying, “I am grateful to be here, alive, seeing this”. It may seem like a photo of any ordinary flower, but art is about the emotion it evokes. For me, it’s gratitude. For you, it may be peace and stillness. That is what I love about art and being a photographer.

While my interest in photography is relatively recent, my eye has been trained through over a decade of experience in custom framing and design. It also helps to be surrounded by incredibly talented artists and to be married to an incredible husband! Shawn has always encouraged me to explore different careers and use of my talents. His support since day one has meant the world to me!

Framing Skills

As I mentioned before, I have over a decade of experience in custom framing and design. That work has not only trained my eye, but it’s also given me endless opportunities to discover inspiration through the pieces I frame.

I currently serve as the manager and designer at Mountaintop Frame Shop in Flagstaff, Arizona. The shop is owned by fine art photographer Shane Knight, and for the past three years, I’ve framed all of his gallery work for the Shane Knight Gallery.

Alongside his photography, I also frame a wide range of pieces brought in by the public — paintings, personal keepsakes, archival documents, and three-dimensional items. Handling such varied work has deepened my respect for craftsmanship and shaped the way I approach my own photography. Every frame has to support the story within the image. I try to photograph with that same intention.
